What does the new year have in store for us? Like everything, styles come and go, and evolve over time. In this article, we’ll tell you the graphic and web design trends that are ramping up in 2023.
Motion Graphics
Motion graphics, either video or animated elements, capture the user’s attention and generate higher conversion rates. They invite us to contemplate and linger.
3D Graphics
Breaking away from flat design and instead welcoming volume, depth, texture and shadow, 3D graphics also can incorporate motion, giving them a more realistic look.
Bright Colors
Goodbye pastels. Bright colors are back: bold and vibrant colors that are complemented by clean lines and geometric compositions. These are very useful for highlighting elements such as calls to action.
Retro Designs
The retro stylings of the 80s and 90s are back. You’ve seen it in series, movies and online content—we’re looking to the past for inspiration. Nostalgia and idealization of the past makes its way into design through neon colorways, garish illustrations and a nod to the first video games.
Expressive Fonts
These fonts give great personality to our designs. They are usually unique typefaces, handmade and hard to miss. The bigger the better!
Dark Mode
Some TLC for our eyes. Dark mode, increasingly set as default, is catching on. It improves contrast, readability and the ability to work with a wide range of more subtle colors. Dark modes also generate expectation, we were overly accustomed (and a bit bored?) with white backgrounds.
Thinking Outside the Box
Forget rectangles. The use of organic shapes, soft and rounded lines and especially asymmetrical shapes for graphic containers is becoming widespread. Imperfect as life itself.
Breaking Down Stereotypes
Photography is key to good design. Increasingly, the images we use are more inclusive and better, more realistic representatives of real people. We are moving away from the cult of the idealized bodt to make room for an accurate representation of people: all cultures, backgrounds, genders or disabilities are welcome.
AI Images
These AI produced images are the latest in computer-generated visual technology based on text descriptions and a visual database. The possibilities are limitless and could bring ground-shifting change to the creative process: the creation “fake” portraits with no image rights, landscapes we could never have imagined, or technically “perfect” visual art are just a few of the implications of this new technology.
Take Full Advantage of these 2023 Design Trends
Over the past two years we’ve done a great deal of self-reflection as a society, which has had a profound impact on the way brands communicate with customers. Many are trying to shift their gaze to the positive and lighten the mood—a direct consequence of the pandemic and the world’s changing social and political landscape.
In conclusion, 2023 is full of exciting design novelties. Some were already present and will gain momentum this year. We recommend putting into practice at least some of these graphic design and web design trends to enhance and highlight your brand’s image. And if you need a hand, you can always count on us.
