For companies operating across multiple international markets, maintaining consistent and insightful marketing reporting can be a complex challenge. Disparate data sources, fragmented marketing efforts, and the need for real-time insights across regions can hinder the ability to make informed strategic decisions.
By combining earned, owned, and paid data across platforms and markets, businesses can overcome these challenges and gain a complete view of marketing performance through unified data management and automated dashboards. Centralizing data from multiple sources into a single platform allows for cohesive reporting, making it easier to track performance across regions in real time.

Challenges
The challenges of international marketing reporting
International marketing often involves handling multiple platforms, from Google Analytics and social media channels to paid search and CRM or eCommerce systems. Without a centralized reporting system, businesses face several challenges:
- Data fragmentation: Paid, earned, and owned data often reside in siloed systems, making it difficult to gain a complete view of marketing performance.
- Inconsistent KPIs and reporting standards: Different markets may use different KPIs and tagging, making cross-market comparisons difficult.
- Currency and tax variations: Operating in multiple markets means dealing with different currencies and tax rates, complicating financial reporting and performance benchmarking.
- Inconsistent reporting tools: Local markets often use different platforms and software, leading to discrepancies in data collection, formatting, and analysis that hinder standardized reporting.
- Manual reporting processes: Collecting and aggregating data from multiple sources can be time-consuming and error-prone, leading to outdated or inaccurate insights.
How?
How do we streamline reporting across international markets? A real-life example.
Our client is an international e-commerce company operating over 10 online shops across various European countries. This extensive presence introduced challenges in maintaining consistent marketing strategies and unified reporting due to partially decentralized operations. To address these challenges, we identified key obstacles:
- Fragmented paid search management.
Different agencies managed paid search campaigns independently across markets with inconsistent strategies. Varied approaches led to a lack of cohesion in marketing efforts and inconsistent reporting formats and metrics made performance assessments difficult. - Independent marketing teams.
Marketing teams in each market used different reporting and methodologies. The lack of unified KPIs or reporting practices hindered cross-market comparisons. - Inconsistent naming conventions.
Campaigns were named without a consistent format, making it difficult to aggregate and analyze data across markets. - Data silos across multiple sources.
With over 200 data sources, including paid search, social media, affiliates, email marketing, CRM, SEO, and eCommerce, fragmented data prevented a unified, comprehensive view of performance. - Currency and VAT discrepancies.
Sales data reported in local currencies complicated financial consolidation. Different tax rates affected gross and net sales figures, making accurate comparisons a real challenge. - Time-consuming manual data aggregation.
Manual reporting increased the risk of errors and slowed down decision-making due to outdated information. - Limited in-house technical resources.
The company’s developers specialized in the e-commerce platform but lacked data engineering expertise, preventing them from setting up data connections or integrating complex data sources.
Solution
The solution and execution
To tackle these challenges, we implemented a comprehensive solution that combined strategic planning with technical execution without the need to set up new inhouse data infrastructure:
Unified management of paid search campaigns
We assumed the management of paid search campaigns across all markets and conducted a thorough audit of existing campaigns. Afterwards we adjusted local strategies to align with global objectives.
Developed a unified measurement plan and tagging strategy
We collaborated with marketing teams to standardize KPIs and implemented a uniform tagging across all shops. We also defined consistent campaign naming conventions and provided training and guidelines for adoption.
Integrated +200 data sources into a single hub
All data sources were consolidated using Funnel’s breadth of data connectors and custom API integrations developed by our technical team.
Seamless transition to Google Analytics 4
Using Google Analytics heavily, the migration from Universal Analytics (UA) to Google Analytics 4 (GA4) without disrupting reporting continuity was crucial for the client.
We created custom metrics in Funnel.io to replicate key UA metrics such as sessions, revenue, orders etc. within GA4 by mapping data fields between UA and GA4.
Reconciled currency and tax discrepancies
By integrating standardized and updated exchange rates, we unified the reporting currency. Furthermore, we accounted for varying VAT rates and added the options to view sales including and excluding VAT.
Enhanced data depth with customer-level information
Incorporating detailed sales and customer data from the ecommerce and marketing automation platform allowed the client to analyze product performance and pricing trends.
Developed a comprehensive dashboard
To visualize this immense set of daily updated data, we created an interactive, user-friendly dashboard using Google Looker Studio. This included defining and designing tailored views for different stakeholders. One of the crucial features was the implementation of standard and custom filters for data slicing by various dimensions such as market, shop, channel, campaign, etc.
Impact
What was the impact of our solution?
The implementation of a unified data management system and automated dashboard transformed reporting efficiency, enhanced strategic alignment, and improved decision-making.
By seamlessly integrating data solutions with technical execution, we turned the client’s fragmented reporting system into a cohesive, insightful, and highly efficient platform. The Marketing and Sales Dashboard became the central hub for marketing, revenue, and executive teams, providing real-time visibility into key performance metrics, streamlining cross-market comparisons, and enabling more informed budget allocation. This transformation not only eliminated inefficiencies but also enhanced agility, allowing the company to optimize campaigns, improve ROI, and drive sustainable growth.
